Benefit Cosmetics has just launched a new pore care range and an immersive pore care pop-up store
Yes, the rumours are true. There’s a skincare revolution happening as Benefit Cosmetics is launching an all new skincare category for your pores. And in celebration, you can be one of the first to experience and shop the new pore care range IRL, in an amazing, immersive Benefit pop-up.
Benefit Cosmetics has been smoothing and priming pores since 2010. With Benefit’s POREfessional OG being the No.1 Prestige Primer in the UK, it was a natural transition for the brand to create a full range to answer the nation's biggest skin concern. After all, UK’s Google search behaviours reveal there were 4.6 million searches for pore related skincare and on TikTok alone there were over one billion views surrounding #poreTok trends.
And now luckily for your pores, Benefit has extended their pore lineup to include a full range that prioritises that glowy and soft looking finish, improving the appearance of your pores, while also delivering longer term skincare benefits.
Most of us are guilty of using a cocktail of active skincare, but that can lead to a disrupted skin barrier, when all we really want to know is, how to take good care of this essential part of our skin. The Pore Care range itself features a range of products designed to clean and minimise the appearance of pores, reduce shine, and improve overall skin texture.
“Over the years we have been able to unlock a lot of skin secrets that maybe people wouldn't necessarily come to Benefit for. During the brow service, consumers have an aesthetician doing their brows, and part of this service is a skin assessment. Our team discover the things that people are troubled with and haven't found solutions for. In that, we found people still didn't have the right solutions for their pores. There aren't actually a whole lot of pore products out there.” shares Maggie Danielson, Chief Beauty Ambassador.
It features all of the essentials: a makeup remover oil, a foaming cleanser, two face masks, a foaming toner and moisturiser i.e. a full and refined skincare routine. The packaging is fun but they don’t let the quirky pastels fool you, they work hard collectively and individually (if you choose to mix and match products based on pore concern), and are packed with all the goodies your skin needs to stay pore-fectly smooth and healthy (see what we did there).
In order to celebrate the good news for our pores, Benefit is running an immersive super store pop-up for your pores in London, running from 18th-31st March 2023 at 7 James St., Covent Garden WC2E 8BH. And believe us when we say you won’t want to miss it, so we suggest you book yourself in here ASAP for a sneak peak.
After all, this is no regular pop-up. This car-wash inspired super store is everything our bubble dreams are made of. Much like its sister, free ticketed, pop-up in 666 Broadway New York (which sold out quickly may we add), this fully immersive experience allows customers to consult, shop and play, all in one. The store's design features playful nods to the classic American car wash, with bright pastel colours (capturing the essence of the pore range and its packaging), interactive displays, as well as bubbles and foam galore. You will automatically feel as if you’re stepping into the coolest and most retro car wash, adding an extra layer of excitement and entertainment to your shopping experience. Bonus, you get to try some of the goods before you buy. And that’s not all. Benefit has collaborated with TikTok Shop, SO all TikTok stans out there should know what that means!?! Plenty of room for content creation IRL of course.
“People want to interact again right after the pandemic. Benefit is a brand that's so sensorial. This pop-up, it's literally a place to play and experience and yes, learn about the line, but it's very experiential. You can touch and feel and there will be people there to help educate you on the products. Ultimately we just want you to enter into the world of both pore care and Benefit and have fun.” says Danielson.
However, aside from the glitz and bubbles, and selfie mirrors, you will leave understanding everything there is to know about pores. Hear it straight from the Benefit experts, who will be available for 1:1 pore consultations, and can advise you on the best products to add to your basket, there’s also a fun skin diagnostic quiz to help analyse your pore needs (which you can do on their interactive touch screens), free sampling and free prizes to win.
Before heading to the pop-up we asked Jared Bailey, Benefit’s Global Brow & Beauty Authority and Licensed Esthetician, about the biggest pore myths out there so you can have some insight on what to expect and here is what we’ve learned:
Can you open or close your pores?
“They don't open and close. What happens is, your skin, which is an organ, does constrict. So when you're cold or if you're dry, if things feel a bit tighter, that's where people try to do at home extractions, which I don't recommend. If their skin isn't properly hydrated, if it's really cold, it's actually really hard to manipulate the skin because it's so tight. So they don't open and close. It's really your whole skin functioning as it does as an organ where it constricts and contracts.”
How do you know if your pores are blocked?
“I think we all have an aversion to magnifying mirrors. But that's one of the things I always encourage people to do. Once your skin is clean, relaxed, you've taken a shower, it's nice and steamy, take a look in the mirror to see what types of products would benefit your pores. You have over 20,000 on your face alone, which create the entire fabric of your skin. If you want clearer, healthier, smoother, brighter skin, you have to start at a really micro level, which is your pores. Take a look in that magnified mirror and like I always tell people, if you're looking for blackheads look in what we call high-traffic areas. Places you touch a lot. For me, I'm always touching my chin and my beard.”
“Phones, hands, hair, all sorts of things... So look in those high traffic areas for, for discolouration. There's sebaceous filament in your pores. If you squeeze any pore, something will come out of it, but it belongs there. That's the spacious filament that's inside. If you think about those old fashioned strips that you would pull off your nose and it would have those ridges of stuff, that's the spacious filament for the most part. Which actually is sebum that helps to keep your skin hydrated.”
“So you don't want to go around squeezing things out, or doing those types of strips that really pull out that sebaceous filament. You want to be able to look at yourself in the mirror and identify, 'oh this one's a much deeper colour than the rest, so it's clearly blocked.' Then you want to treat it with products that have active ingredients to target that.”
Does drinking water affect the look of your pores?
“It's gonna affect the look of everything on your skin. Starting with your pores, that's what they're there for. It's your filtration system. They produce sebum which protects and hydrates the skin. So it's keeping that hydration level or that water ratio up.”
